The meeting started on time, an important factor for the Bangsar Toastmasters Club. The SAA got the members to recite the Toastmasters’ promise just to remind the members of their responsibilities towards the Club, to fellow club members and to themselves.

Bangsar Toastmasters Club welcomed the Area Governor who was on his 2nd official visit to the club (for your information, he attends all our meetings because he is the founder member of the Club). I give you the pleasure of guessing who he/she is?

Bangsar Toastmasters Club would like to acknowledge the presence of Toastmaster Malini, all the way from USA (…she was a member of our club). It was good to see her again and members took opportunity to do a bit of catching up with her. Malini, thank you for the chocolates.

Invocation by Maureen made us put on our thinking caps to reflect on how we would react if we are put in a particular situation.

Our guest from KPMG Toastmasters Club, TM Syamala chose very appropriate topics for the table topics session. This is the first time I have come across a guest (Damien) volunteering without any hesitation as the first table topics speaker. Randhill, Malini, Michelle and Prem also took part in the table topics session. The topics were very challenging and the participant spoke well. Our evergreen, Lucky, ATMB, gave precise and to the point evaluation for all the table topics speakers. Guest Randhill was voted as the best table topics speaker. He received a certificate from the President.

Humor session was an open session; Ranjit Singh, ATMB, shared a short joke.

The break was for 10 minutes and the meeting resumed with assignment speeches.

4 members presented their speeches from the basic C&L manual:

(# 2) Ranjani - “Benefits of Physical Exercise”

(# 5) Loke Kah Sing – “Gratitude”

(# 6) Michelle – “Career Options”

(# 8) Maureen – “Love Languages”

In my view, all the 4 speakers spoke well and it seems to me that they have done sufficient research on the topics they speak on.

The 4 evaluators were:

AC Fong, CTM

Lucky, ATMB

Lourdes, DTM

Mary Barton, ATMB

All the 4 evaluators did justice by delivering without fear or favor their evaluations (one of the pillars of the Bangsar Toastmasters Club). Maureen was voted as the Best Speaker, and Mary Barton, ATMB, as the Best Evaluator for the day.

Our President not only gave the opening address, which was vibrant and full of enthusiasm, but he was also the GE for the day. Being the President of the club he did point directly the errors and the shortcomings. Among others, he suggested that the club banner be displayed at all meetings. He also requested the SAA to make sure the word of the day and the theme for the meeting be written on the white board. These were noticeable weaknesses at this meeting as aptly pointed out by the GE.

During the closing of the meeting by the President, the guests remarked that they were impressed with the conduct of the meeting.

To conclude, I thoroughly enjoyed this meeting because Bangsar Toastmasters Club has always maintained very high standards and is always looking to improve further. The quality of language, time keeping, topics selection and the manner in which guests are treated are always par excellent.

Please note, this was the last meeting for the year 2007.

I take the opportunity to wish you all belated Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. I hope and pray that 2008 will be a prosperous year for all of us and hope we can achieve whatever we plan for the year ahead.

See you at the next meeting.

Bangsar being Bangsar, the next meeting is on the 1st January 2008. This is the second time we are holding our meeting on January 1st - for the record, the first time was when the Bangsar Toastmasters Club welcomed the year 2002.

Again, I wish you all Happy New Year and have a wonderful year ahead.
